Well I've made it to "full term" status.
Woot.
In honor of this amazing new status, I pulled out the sequins to wear to school.
That sweater looks slightly less garish hanging in my closet.
In this photo I look like a contestant for Mrs. Pregnant Indiana.
I even have the shimmery face to go with it.
Well, we've had some developments this week.
I'll try to put my usual snarky spin on this, but I've actually had some disappointment.
Lady G is not even remotely in the correct position for birthing. Her head is right up under those besequined mammaries.
She curves around and is laying on her side, with her face and front part of her body facing out towards my right arm.
None of that lovely head down business needed for birthing.
I knew she was breech at 28 weeks, but I was convinced she had flipped. I was wrong. No, that's not possible. She must have flipped and then flipped back. I always know what I'm talking about.
At the Saturday birthday bash, Dr. Megan, BFF and OB extraordinaire, reluctantly agree to push on my stomach at my insistence.
"Tell me, she's head down!" I demanded.
After sprawling myself out on my parents' living room floor, Meg palpated my bulbous midsection.
She wasn't convinced her head was down in the least.
First off, kudos to Meg for indulging me in such ridiculousness.
"Now have some cake, and check my cervix!"
Okay, I didn't go that far. That's sarcasm. Having a dear childhood friend who happens to be an obstetrician makes for a great support system during a first pregnancy. Love her.
On Monday my doctor could not determine her position either, so I was sent for an ultrasound. Lo and behold, Genevieve's position was determined and it wasn't what I wanted to hear.
So now we have a scheduled c-section. I now know her birthday, unless she comes earlier. I am no planner. I like surprises. I had visions of yoga breathing and feats of strength.
There shall be none.
30 minutes in and out and she will be here.
I'm coping with the disappointment, accepting what I cannot change and looking on the bright side. All that matters is that she arrives and is fine.
She will avoid birth canal-induced cone head.
I shall be chauffeured for two weeks since I can't drive for that long.
My delivery will be as long as it takes me to watch an episode of The New Girl.
Send your prayers and sweet wishes our way. We are gearing up for some major changes and one seriously big blessing.
